LOMI LOMI MASSAGE
Beginning with a Hawaiian prayer, Lomi Lomi is a relaxation massage therapy based on the Huna tradition in Hawaii. This therapy incorporates flowing strokes connecting the whole body mainly using the forearms, some hands, fingers/thumbs, and can include deeper strokes (Loku Lomi) for therapeutic benefit. The movement is like hula dance, creating a soothing motion for the receiver. Lomi Lomi is spritually-based, and is given with unconditional love and compassion and understanding of a deeper human connection. Two of the main principles of Huna are everything seeks harmony and everything seeks love. The intent is to release tension and stress, thereby freeing one's energy flow to restore balance and harmony to the mind, body and spirit.
Because Lomi Lomi incorporates the spirit of the land, its people, and those connections, in order to be certified in Lomi Lomi massage, one must take a Lomi Lomi intensive in Hawaii. Jewl has not yet ventured to the islands for this certification, but has 32 hours of training in Lomi Lomi & Loku Lomi by Kolleen Kohlrus in Seattle, who gives workshops and intensives to therapists in Hawaii and nationally.
