SWEDISH MASSAGE
Jewl's alma mater, Brenneke in Seattle, specializes in Swedish and advanced Treatment massage techniques. Jewl's Swedish training is the method of combining the strokes of effleurage, pettrissage, friction, vibration, tapotement, always towards the heart, with the movement of Pehr Henrick Ling's (1776-1839) gymnastics. A good definition can be found at earthsprittx.com. See definitions below for more information. A swedish massage is generally tailored to your needs, including lighter to deeper strokes as necessary.
At Sensorielle, we offer a "relaxing swedish" massage. This massage is a full body massage with no focus. The massage is done with light pressure only, and is a rhythmic relaxing massage with scented or unscented oil. If you are looking to just relax and unwind and have no problem areas, this is the massage for you. If you have a problem area, try the holistic or deep tissue massage, which can be tailored to your needs.
Definitions:
Swedish Massage - A system of long strokes, kneading and friction techniques on the more superficial layers of the muscles, combined with active and passive movements of the joints.
Effleurage - This smooth, gliding stroke is used to relax and warm soft tissue, increasing circulation. It is applied using both hands and/or forearms.
Petrissage (also called kneading) involves squeezing, rolling and kneading the muscles and usually follows effleurage during Swedish massage.
Friction - The deepest of Swedish massage strokes. This stroke encompasses deep, linear or circular pressure, either stationary or slow movement, applied to soft tissue causing the underlying layers of tissue to rub against each other. The result causes an increase in blood flow to the massaged area and breaking up of adhesions.
Tapotement - percussive movement executed with cupped hands, fingers or "hacking" with the edge of the hand using short, alternating taps to the client.
Vibration - Oscillatory movements that shake or vibrate the body
Gymnastics - Passive and active movements, Bending and stretching
